Fintown Holiday Homes Donegal
Fintown is a small village in County Donegal on the banks of Lough Finn. It is situated within the Gaeltacht, an Irish-speaking area, in the west of the county. Nearby Glenveagh National Park is well worth a visit.
Overlooked by Aghla and Screig Mountains, its main attraction is Donegal’s only operational narrow gauge railway. The Fintown Railway is the only operational railway in Co. Donegal. Set amidst spectacular highland scenery overlooking Lough Finn, the railway (3 m/5km) is a restored section of the former County Donegal Railway.
This setting prompted the famous international playwright Brian Friel to pronounce “What is on offer is a unique journey along the shores of a lake as grand as any in Switzerland or Minnesota”.
Bealach na Gaeltachta is a Waymarked Way which can begin/end in either Doochary or Fintown. It takes you through some of Donegal’s finest woodland walking and a modest climb just north of Fintown gives spectacular views across the surrounding countryside.
