Ballycastle is a popular seaside town located on the most north-easterly tip of county Antrim, Northern Ireland . This charming town is surrounded by breath-taking scenery and is steeped in cultural history.
Ballycastle is perhaps best known for the ‘Ould Lammas Fair’, probably the largest of its kind in Ireland with its ‘dulse’ and ‘yellowman’. The fair is held every year on the last Monday and Tuesday of August.
Ballycastle is the perfect central location from which to organise day trips. The visitor can go west along the beautiful Causeway coast to Kinbane, Carrickarede Ropebridge, Ballintoy, Dunseverick, Portbraddon and to the world famous Giant’s Causeway and Bushmills Distillery.
Journeying south eastwards will bring the visitor through the Glens of Antrim to Cushendall, Cushendun, Glenariff, Glenann, Glencorp, Glenballyeamon, Glendun and Glenarm. The more adventurous can go north to the Mull of Kintyre or Rathlin Island to enjoy some true wildlife, fishing and diving.
The local Ballycastle Golf Club offers a full 18 hole, part links, part parkland, championship course open to both members and non-members all year round. Towering above the town itself, is Knocklayde Mountain which can be seen for miles around.
On the side of this mountain you will find Ballycastle Forest which has two entrances and whose peace can be enjoyed while having a picnic or a stroll.
