Carlow Town Holiday Homes

Carlow is an inland town in the south-east of Ireland in County Carlow, 84 km from Dublin. The River Barrow flows through the town. The river forms the historic boundary between County Laois and County Carlow but the whole town was brought into the County of Carlow in 1888.

This ancient town is a bustling centre with great shopping, fine restaurants and first-class accommodation. Carlow has a well-earned reputation for lively festivals throughout the year, including the internationally renowned Eigse Arts Festival – a 10-day extravaganza featuring visual arts, theatre, performance, comedy, dance, literary events and more.

Carlow is also famous for its Little Theatre and there are frequent shows during the season. Live music is featured in many of the town’s pubs

Carlow town is steeped in history and culture ranging from local and national monuments such as Carlow castle, the world renowned Browneshill Dolemn to more contemporary landmarks such as Carlow Cathedral and courthouse. The Barrow River is considered one of the most enjoyable navigable waters and a number of leisure craft; charter services are available for hire.

While the river remains an important focus for the town, with a long established Rowing Club and annual regatta, other influences include an international student population, a thriving arts and craft community and a long and lively tradition of Irish language use and culture.

Visitors can take a walking tour of Carlow and stop off at the military museum housed in a late 19th century church with a wide range of exhibits or pay a visit to the Carlow Brewing Company, a traditional micro brewery.

Carlow was once the traditional malt and hop producing region in Ireland, and the brewery provides guided tours and tastings of their award winning beers.

Carlow also offers a wide range of activities including cycling and walking in the mountain ranges of Mount Leinster, the Blackstairs Mountains and Mount Brandon, as well as excellent fishing on the Barrow, Nore and Suir river systems.

Carlow Golf Club is situated 3.2 km north of Carlow Town. The course is one of the finest parkland course in Ireland and is noted for being superb test of golfing prowess. Carlow golf course has magnificent layout with beautiful beech trees and wooded terrain.

The 16th hole was chosen by Christy O’Connor Snr as one of the finest closing holes in Irish golf.
