Castlemartyr Holiday Homes Cork
Castlemartyr is a charming estate village located midway between Midleton and Youghal in east County cork. It is 30km from Cork City and just over 8km from the coast at Ballycotton Bay.
The naturally fertile soil of Castlemartyr and its surroundings made this portion of East Cork a coveted possession down through the centuries. The village itself was established in the 17th century by Sir Richard Boyle, the “Great” Earl of Cork. Castlemartyr actually replaced two medieval villages which Boyle demolished. It is a historical village with a range of sites of archaeological interest, reflecting virtually every era in the country’s history.
Looming gates enclose the Castlemartyr Carmelite Monastery. Within the monastery grounds visitors are enchanted by woodlands, lakes, and luxuriant gardens, which provide an equally ideal setting for vigorous walks or some quiet contemplation and reflection.
Castlemartyr is a good base from which to discover the Stephen Pearce Pottery in Shanagarry, the blue flag Garryvoe Beach, Ballymaloe House, Gardens and Cookery school, and the Midleton Whiskey Distillery. All are within 20 minutes’ drive.
Cobh Heritage Centre, Fota Wildlife Park, Fota House and Gardens, Lismore Castle and Gardens and Ballycotton Cliffs are all within a 30-minute drive of the village.
