The 2010 City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival will take place from 29th April – 3rd May 2010 across multiple venues in Derry – Londonderry.
Even in a city where fabulous live entertainment is part of our DNA, our annual love affair with jazz in all its forms is something truly special. Yes, the magical City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival, the current ‘NITB Event of the Year’, is back again with another fantastic line-up for 2010.
And if you thought last year’s event, the biggest yet, couldn’t be surpassed, you’re in for a treat. The Derry air will once again be crackling with a vast and deliciously diverse line-up covering every facet of jazz from giant names like ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings through the psychedelic beat of Europe’s break-out act of the year, Aeroplane, to the joyful sounds of Dixieland and trad veterans the Bourbon Swing Jazz Band.
On behalf of Derry City Council and our main sponsors, Guinness/Diageo (who provide hundreds of hours of superb free music on the amazing Guinness Free Jazz Trail), you’re very welcome to a festival of fun and music you’ll never forget.
One of the sure signs of a successful festival is the number of talented friends who return year after year. The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival has a legion of such favourites.
The crowds will be flocking to the exhilarating rockabilly trio Cat Scratch Fever, the master of the boogie woogie piano, Colm (Stride) O’Brien, the Jive Aces, kings of great jump jive and swing music, and the inimitable King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys, a six–piece outfit guaranteed to bring the house down.
