Doolin Holiday Homes Clare
Doolin is a picturesque seaside village situated on a sandy bay on the north west coast of County Clare some 3km from Aill na Searrach, the northern end of the Cliffs of Moher. Facing the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by the dramatic bare limestone landscape of the Burren, Doolin is a place of spectacular beauty. Doolin is situated 8km from the famous cliffs of Moher, 6km from Lisdoonvarna spa town and 70km from Galway City.
Traditionally a fishing village, Doolin is now better known as the traditional music capital of Ireland. In recent years the village has been attracting crowds to spontaneous sessions and festivals of Irish and international music. One of Doolin’s most famous sons was Micho Russell, an outstanding whistle player. His contribution to Irish music is celebrated with a weekend of traditional music every February.
There are three music pubs in Doolin: McDermott’s, McGann’s and O’Connor’s. You will find music on a nightly basis in all the pubs during the summer months and – if in the right place at the right time – some of the best sessions in the winter. Many household names in the Irish Traditional Music Scene have started out in Doolin and numerous well established musicians have come just to join in a session.
But music is certainly not all Doolin has to offer. Its location is ideal for exploring North Clare with its beautiful sites like the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren with the Aillwee Cave and the famous Poulnabrone Dolmen. You can also take boat trips to the Aran Islands.
Cavers and Potholers have visited Doolin for many years. A network of caves stretches right from the centre of Doolin for a couple of miles to the north. Doolin has also become very popular with surfers in recent years
The smallest of the Aran islands, Inisheer, is only 10km from the mainland at Doolin. A ferry operating a daily service can take groups of up to 150 people across to the islands in less than 30 minutes – making it the fastest route to the islands. The world reknowned Lahinch Golf Course is only 11km from Doolin.
Why not come and enjoy the charms of this small Irish seaside village rooted in tradition yet possessing an international ambience.
