Located on the picturesque Lough Swilly, Fahan is a quiet and tranquil village. It takes its name from St Mura who was the first abbot of a Columban foundation there. St Mura’s is a superbly decorated 7th century cross slab lying at the monastery site.
Buncrana, 4 miles to the north along the coast, is the main town in Inishowen and has many fine pubs and restaurants. It also has a public swimming pool and 9 hole golf course.
Attractions in the area include Doagh Island Famine Village and Oakfield Park as well as Historic Walled City of Derry
For the more adventurous golfer the 18 hole course at Northwest Golf Club is just 5 minutes drive away. A new marina has recently opened in Fahan making this an ideal venue for boating enthusiasts.
There are safe sandy bathing beaches on the northern end of the village and for those rainy days a days shopping in Derry is a must.
