Killeshandra is a picturesque countryside village surrounded by lakes. It is situated 18km from Cavan Town, the principal town in the county. Owing to its location near Lough Oughter and Portaliffe Lake, Killeshandra is an angling centre of international renown.

Killeshandra Town Lake on the outskirts on the town, is an ideal venue for all sorts of water sports. It is now a venue for a round of the All-Ireland Power Boat Championships. Water skiing and jet skiing are also very popular.
In addition to angling the village is famous for friendly people, traditional music and lively pubs.The Killeshandra Festival of the Lakes takes place annually over the June bank holiday weekend.
With music and craic in many of the pubs, the festival also features a family fun day on the Strand, table quizzes, car treasure hunt, sports day and children’s talent show.
Killeshandra is only 5km from the magnificent forest park at Killykeen. This 240-acre Forest Park is a wonderland of lakes, rivers and forests. It offers walkers, anglers, cyclists and those with a love of nature a scenic and tranquil environment in which to indulge their love of the great outdoors.
Marked trails lead into the forests where visitors can view the park’s fauna and flora, disturbed only by the sound of birdsong and the rippling waters of Lough Erne.
Just outside Killeshandra is the impressive Lough Oughter Castle, which is sited on an island in the middle of Lough Oughter. Also near Killeshandra is Trinity Island and Abbey, one of the oldest ecclesiastical sites in Cavan
