Lisdoonvarna Holiday Homes Clare
Lisdoonvarna in North Clare is a popular holiday resort on the edge of The Burren. The town is famous for its music and festivals. In September each year one of Europe’s largest matchmaking events is held in the town attracting thousands of romantic hopefuls, bachelor farmers and accompanying revellers. The month-long event is an important tourist attraction. The current matchmaker is Willie Daly, a fourth generation matchmaker.
Lisdoonvarna is also Ireland’s best known spa town. The famous Victorian Spa Complex and Health Centre is set in an attractive parkland setting. It is the only active spa centre in Ireland.
The waters contain magnesia, iodine and iron and are reputed to have health restoration properties. The Spa’s therapeutic mineral waters have been dispensed here since the 18th century. The Centre features sulphur baths, massage, wax treatments and saunas. The Victorian Pump House is open daily
Lisdoonvarna is an ideal base to explore North Clare and The Burren region. Just north of the village the land rises sharply which affords fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding areas including a wonderful view over the valley of Ballyvaughan.
In the village the Burren Smokehouse Visitors Centre, established in 1995, showcases traditional smoking methods of locally caught fish and also other local gourmet products and crafts.
Doolin is just 6km away from Lisdoonvara and is a delightful small seaside village famed for its traditional Irish Music and from where you can catch the ferry to the Aran Islands.
The Famous Cliffs of Moher are just up the coast, and 9 miles north west of Lisdoonvarna is the beautiful Fanore Strand with its amazing sand dunes, ideal for swimming and beach picnics. Other activities in the area include fishing, horse riding, and superb golf at nearby Lahinch and Doonbeg.
